The rapid economic development in the East Asian countries, promoting the globalization of manufacturing, while there is a tendency to return to Japan like putting up new plants in harbor areas, is bringing drastic changes to the logistics field of our country. Under the circumstances, it has come to our attention that we need to reinforce our international competitiveness, to improve the quality of our lives ,to vitalize local areas, and to ensure our daily safety.
The article introduces various measures implemented in the request for the budget of fiscal year of 2008, regarding ports/coasts/airports-related matters,
in light of investment prioritization. The measures aim at appropriate reaction against the above-mentioned social and economic tendency and at keeping the linkage to the world.
