FEATURES 〜 main polices of port administration 〜
  With the problems of Japan's population decrease, lowering birthrate and coming of aging society, and our concern over the deteriorating fiscal conditions, the infrastructure and transport administrative policy is facing a turning point in order to build up a sustainable society leading to the next generation.
 Under these circumstances, the growth strategy conference by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has discussed the ocean field, including ports, as one of the key strategies.
 And "New Growth Strategy" of the whole government has included the reinforcement of international competitiveness of our ports, based on the "selection" and "concentration" policy.
 Ports have been bases for people's flow and trading in Japan surrounded by ocean. Nothing has been changed on their significance, considering the fact that 99.7% of trade cargoes is carried by sea in Japan.
 Now is the time for us to conduct appropriately to show "port capability", which will make it possible for us to realize the revitalization of "Radiant Japan".
 The feature of this month introduces primary actions to be taken during this year and next year to revive the ocean nation, Japan.
